Tsikherva Canyon: a short cool trail with rain caveats

Tsikherva is a short urban canyon, but damp cliffs, stream, shade, steps and narrow spots still call for mountain-style caution. After rain, with raised water, poor grip or dusk, turn back and leave the route for a dry day.

In Tsikherva, the city quickly gives way to stream, shade and wet stone. Being close to the resort line does not make the canyon safe in all weather: even a short section can become slippery, dark and awkward to exit.

Cool air near the city

The canyon works as a short contrast to the beach and a walk from Пляж Старой Гагры: тихий берег у парка без лишних гарантий toward busier Gagra. Enter only with footwear that grips wet surfaces and a clear idea of where you will turn around.

What to look at

The main elements are stone, stream, greenery and the contrast with Зимний театр Гагры: колонны, руина и внешний осмотр and Колоннада Гагры: белые арки у моря. Walk slowly, do not stand under damp overhangs, avoid narrow places when water is noisy or cloudy, and do not descend to the channel for a photo.

When not to go farther

If the path is washed out, stones shine with moisture, the water has risen, the canyon is getting dark or people ahead are turning back, return to the urban route. For a longer nature pairing, leave Жоэкварское ущелье: зелёная пауза рядом с Гагрой for a day with stable weather.

Details

Practical: a short canyon still carries water and wet-stone risk.

  • Wear shoes with grip and keep your hands free.
  • Do not stand under overhanging rock, wet scree or doubtful walls.
  • Avoid narrow sections if water is raised or cloudy.
  • Keep time for the return and do not start near dusk.
  • If conditions feel doubtful, choose the town walk instead of pushing farther.

  • Gagra Central Beach: urban shore and resort rhythm
    Related
Gagra Central Beach is New Gagra’s main urban beach: pebbles, cafes, rentals, evening walks and quick access to the market. Comfort depends on season, exact section, swell, wind and crowd level, so choose the spot, water entry and rest format on arrival rather than assuming identical services, lifeguards or calm sea along the whole strip.

  • Gagra Colonnade: white arches by the sea
    Related
The Gagra Colonnade is the clearest visual symbol of Old Gagra: an open arcade beside the sea, fountain, park and promenade. It works well as a first stop for orientation, an easy walk and evening photographs, but water edges, roads and wet paving still require basic attention.

  • Gagra Winter Theater: columns, ruin and exterior viewing
    Related
The Winter Theater by the Colonnade is expressive ruined architecture in Old Gagra, but the safe scenario remains exterior viewing. Facade, staircase and silhouette read from open areas; entry, interiors and closed openings should not be part of the plan.

  • Old Gagra Beach: a quiet park-side shore without overpromising

The beach by Seaside Park is a calmer alternative to Gagra’s busier sections: pebbles, trees nearby and an old-resort mood. Infrastructure, water visibility, exit comfort and evening lighting vary by spot, so arrive prepared and keep margin for a safe return through the park or promenade.

Zhoekvara Gorge gives a quick nature contrast close to Gagra, but proximity to town does not make the route easy in every condition. Weather, water, wet stones, roots and scree should set the pace and turn-back point.
