Polyana: The Wildest Ghost Settlement in the Tkvarcheli Valley
Polyana is an overgrown former settlement near Tkvarcheli where the forest atmosphere is strong, but visible paths, daylight, ruin restraint and early turnbacks matter more than finding “secret” interiors.
Polyana is quieter and more overgrown than the better-known stops in the district. Treat it as a short daylight walk around exterior traces of a settlement, not as an invitation to enter buildings or search for hidden passages.
What matters here
The strength of the place lies in forest silence, old street outlines, concrete under greenery and a sense of distance. Overgrowth can hide holes, broken glass, wire, wet roots and weak edges. The fewer people are around, the more conservative the route should be.
Access and pace
Check road conditions before going and do not rely on phone signal, cafes or quick help nearby. After rain, the approach can deteriorate. If the passage disappears, do not push through: returning along the known line is safer.
How to look
Stay on visible streets and open ground, do not enter closed blocks and do not touch building elements. For photos, use wider views and exterior details rather than taking risks for a balcony, stairway or dark room.
Details
Practical: Polyana requires self-sufficiency.
- Bring water, a snack, closed footwear, phone battery and an offline map.
- Do not enter buildings, basements or technical rooms.
- After rain, in thick grass or poor light, shorten the stop.
- Stay together: it is easy to lose orientation in overgrowth.
- Take rubbish out and do not remove fragments as souvenirs.
